Greywache data table

Family:
Sedimentary
Formation: Formed of sandstone, but mixed with lots of clay and other rock particles.
Texture: Varied - some is clearly made of sand (medium grained). Others are more muddy (fine grained).
Colour: Grey; green; blue.
Location: Much of County Down.
Uses: Used as a roadstone.
Chemistry: None.
Notes: The odd name 'greywacke' means 'grey grit' which is a good description for rock made of sand grains surrounded by clay particles.
