A backstreet in Lagos in the Portuguese Algarve. Note the Moorish touches such as the chimneypot, which harks back to the Islamic past of this part of Europe. Even the name 'Algarve' stems form the Arabic 'Al Gharb', or 'The West ', symbolising the western edge of the Islamic empire of that time.
