Metro

The Tyne and Wear Metro serves an area which contains about 1 million people. The metro network was developed by converting 45 km of British Rail lines some of which were disused, and building 13 km of new track, including a 6.1 km long underground section in central Newcastle and Gateshead. A new bridge was built to cross the River Tyne.
