Venice

The belltower of St. Mark's (Campanile di San Marco) in Venice was originally built as a military watchtower over a thousand years ago. It was later covered in bronze and used as a beacon for mariners. After an earthquake in the 1500s it was rebuilt and again in the early 1900s.
