Head and North Star Dyke
Fair
Head, in the background, is an exposed volcanic sill made of dolerite.
That this whole area was subject ot intrusive vulcanicity is witnessed
by the fact that the foreground shows a dyke - the North Star Dyke,
as it is oriented to the north. Both of these features were caused
about 60 million years ago when Europe and North America split apart.
