Rath

This ringfort or rath is located at a crossing point of the River Main in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. At one time Ireland had over 20,000 raths but many have been destroyed with agricultural change. Most raths were first constructed in the 6th century and acted as defensive structures inside which farm buildings were located.
