Twelve Bens

There are twelve peaks in this range of mountains in Connemara, Ireland giving them the nickname of the twelve bens. They are

While not very high, rising to a maximum of 730m, they are a superb climb in good weather providing superb views over the Connemara countryside.

In the foreground is the lake and rock strewn landscape of Connemara. While picturesque and a real asset to modern tourism, such a landscape made conditions for farming difficult. The Potato Famine of the 1840s hit particularly hard here.
