Belfast Port Like
many docks Belfast has changed dramatically with containerisation as
these disused cranes and warehouses in Queen's Island indicate. Belfast
Port is set to get £140m investment which includes progress on
the Titanic Quarter. A five-year corporate plan includes a new terminal
to improve container capacity which is said to be to the benefit of
the whole economy of Northern Ireland. 66% of all Northern Ireland's
seaborne trade goes through Belfast Port and a quarter of the entire
island of Ireland's trade also used the port. However, the possibility
of a new port development near Drogheda in County Louth in the Republic
of Ireland will bring increased competition. |
